Gogglebox stars reduced to tears after watching contestant’s grief on My Mum, Your Dad

This week’s episode of My Mum, Your Dad had viewers on a rollercoaster of emotions and the Gogglebox sofa critics were no exception.

During Monday’s edition of ’s latest dating show, Roger, 58, who suffered immense heartbreak just 18 months ago when , had his first date with Caroline.

Roger – whose daughter Jess nominated him to be on the show – bravely discussed the difficulties of losing his late wife.

He reduced Caroline to floods of tears as he spoke about how Joanne had four years ago, but she recovered until she had a spot behind her ear while they were on holiday.

Roger then shared how one night his wife was incredibly tired and fell asleep on the sofa, and she didn’t really wake up again.

Reacting to Monday’s episode, the stars struggled to hold back the tears.

‘You’ve just got to do what makes you happy,’ said Izzi Warner while wiping tears from her eyes.

Married couple Steve and Sue were also in shock.

‘You honestly never know what’s round the corner.’

Before they reached the emotional scene the cast branded the contestant a ‘silver fox’ and even compared him to Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood.

The cast also had a laugh when bombshell Janey made her entrance.

‘Oh look at him [Roger] he’s giving her the eye,’ laughed Julie Malone

‘See you’ve just got to press the right buttons with men,’ joked Steve.

The hit reality programme, which features the likes of , sisters Ellie and Izzi, and The Malone Family, has picked up plenty of awards over recent years, including  and the following year.

The celebrity spin-off, meanwhile, has seen the likes of , Roman Kemp and Shaun Ryder transform into TV sofa critics.

Gogglebox returns next Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
