Gossip Girl fans freak out after cryptic post suggests original cast are reuniting: ‘Is this really happening?’

Gossip Girl fans are currently ‘losing their minds’ after a cryptic throwback of the original cast was shared on .

The hit series was based on a hugely popular book series by Cecily von Ziegesar and adapted by the creators of the OC – it premiered on September 19, 2007, introducing us all to the popular high-schoolers at Constance Billard- St Jude’s, including Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Serena van der Woodsen (), Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) and Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick).

The last episode of the original show revealed that lonely boy Dan Humphrey () had in fact been moonlighting as uber-blogger Gossip Girl all along, much to the annoyance of fans everywhere.

It’s been 11 years since bid farewell to Serena and the gang, however, a throwback Instagram post of the main cast has sent fans into a frenzy.

The caption read: ‘Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you.’

Although this doesn’t give away much, hardcore fans are already convinced something special could be in the works.

‘Don’t play games…I will sue you for emotional distress…??‍⚖️ Is this really happening??? Please say yes,’ one person enthused.

‘Losing my mind over what this means,’ another added.

‘Screaming crying throwing up if the original cast comes back,’ a third replied.

As for the show’s recent revival, it was confirmed in January this year that HBO Max is

The reprisal received a mixed reaction when it premiered in 2021, while the second season is currently still on the air.

In a statement shared on Twitter, executive producer Joshua Safran: ‘So here’s the goss: it is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce GOSSIP GIRL will not be continuing on HBO Max.

‘The EPs and I will forever be grateful to the network and studio for their faith and support; the writers for their devious brains and dexterous talent; the superstar cast for being the greatest of collaborators and friends; and the crew for their hard work, dedication, and love for the project.’

The screenwriter stressed that ‘this was honestly the greatest set I ever worked on, top to bottom’, while expressing his hope that Gossip Girl could continue if the creators are able to find a home for it with another network.

‘A big thank you to all the GG fans around the world. You’re the reason we came back in the first place, and who knows, maybe the reason we will meet again. Much love.’
