Greg James misses BBC Radio show after testing positive for Covid

missed his breakfast show this morning after revealing he has tested positive for Covid.

The 36-year-old presenter had returned from his delayed honeymoon with author wife Bella Mackie and told fans he was planning to host the show from his home tomorrow if he was feeling better.

‘Oh for fu,’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘Not a classic end to a (very delayed) honeymoon tbh Thanks to the @BBCR1 gang for rallying in the early hours and to @ariellefree for covering the breakfast show. Hoping to feel better and sort something from my house tomorrow ??.

‘Back to bed.’

He then shared a photo of himself looking up at poster on the Piccadilly Lights along with a Radio 1 banner featuring images of his listeners. It was part of his successful BBC Radio One campaign to find 193 people in 193 countries around the world to flip off Covid.

Taking to Instagram, Greg also posted in bed as he came down with Covid symptoms.

He as inundated with get well messages from fans and colleagues, including Clara Amfo who wrote: ‘FUMING! Sorry pal xx’

A fan added: ‘Oh no! Hope you’re on the mend and back on the air very soon xx’

Greg announced after she proposed to him in February 2018. The pair then in September that year, with the host saying at the time: ‘Bella and I got married and it was the most incredible day of my life.

‘I think it was up there for her too. She is the best thing ever and I feel like I might actually burst with happiness.’

It’s believed the pair put their honeymoon on hold as Greg took over from Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1’s breakfast show, before it was further delayed by the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Greg recently admitted at the start of the coronavirus outbreak.

He told The Independent: ‘I had a conversation with my boss and I was just like “I can’t do it anymore”. I can’t pretend to be happy when I’m sad and everyone else is sad.’

He continued: ‘But the team and I were just like, “How do we keep this going while we’re worrying about all the other things in our lives?”‘

Explaining his producer pointed out that everyone was anxious and fed up with the situation, not just him, Greg said: ‘You’re a long time not on the Breakfast Show. It’s a privilege to get to do it. And it’s going well.

‘So, I’m just going to keep going until I don’t like it any more.’
