owners Take-Two are still not saying much about GTA 6 but they’re already convinced that it’s going to change the world.

Claiming that your new game is going to change the face of entertainment itself would sound like absurd hyperbole when discussing any other game, but when you’re talking about it’s a perfectly reasonable comment to make.

We still know virtually nothing about GTA 6, but given that GTA 5 is the fastest-selling entertainment product – not just video game – in history the sky’s the limit. Especially when GTA 5 is still selling strong, 10 years after it was first released, and has now sold a lifetime total of 169 million copies.

‘With development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series well underway, the Rockstar Games team is determined to once again set creative benchmarks for the series, our industry, and for all entertainment, just as the label has done with every one of their frontline releases,’ said Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick.

Zelnick was speaking to investors after the publishing of the company’s latest financial results which, recently, has seen a sharp decline thanks to the end of lockdown and what Zelnick describes as a ‘softer economy’.

However, Take-Two’s situation is complicated by the fact that it just spent $12.7 billion buying social games developer Zynga, which overshadows everything else for them this year.

There was further bad news when Take-Two had to announce , although the ongoing success of GTA Online and the NBA 2K series means they’ve no real short term money concerns.

In fact, they claim to have over 70 new games (including multiple versions of the same game on different formats) in development right now, even if almost none of them have been officially announced.

After the recent announcement of a once again proved last year’s to be accurate, one of the few games that was part of that but hasn’t yet been confirmed is XCOM 3.

Sadly, Zelnick made no mention of it and until Midnight Suns, which is also developed by Firaxis, is out the door it’ll likely not be officially acknowledged.
