*Warning: This article contains spoilers from the first season of Heartstopper on Netflix.
If like us you binged Heartstopper in one go, you’ll be absolutely enamoured with Tao and Elle, the two best friends who eventually realise they’re a little bit in love.
While Heartstopper follows school boys Nick and Charlie, who fall head over heels for each other and subsequently live out the young queer romance so many LGBTQ+ people could only dream of in their teen years, Elle and Tao’s romance is a slower burner.
Elle is trans and moves to the nearby all girls school, but is still a key part of her friendship circle with Nick and Tao.
However, eventually Elle and Tao realise there’s more than a friendship between them and finally, after eight episodes of tension, it’s clear they want to kiss.
While Netflix is yet to officially confirm season two, Elle and Tao stars Yasmin Finney and William Gao have teased a ‘blossoming’ romance between their trail-blazing teen idols.
Looking ahead to what they want to see in season two, William told Metro and other press: ‘Their love story blossoms in season two, at least in the book in the second book. It blossoms and this flower opens out of this love between them.’
‘What was once such a strong beautiful friendship has turned into a beautiful relationship,’ said Yasmin.
‘I’m hoping in season two we see something like that. I don’t know not giving any hints but I’m really excited.’
Well, at the time of writing season two hasn’t been confirmed but with the unbeatable reaction from fans, 100 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes and Alice Oseman’s four books to follow, it seems likely.
In the same interview, Alice actually said there would ‘probably be four seasons to cover the full story’.
‘I haven’t done any in-detail planning or anything, but it’s quite easy to divide up the books into seasons, so four I think would do it.’
Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix now.
