Io Interactive’s new dragon-themed fantasy game is described as a RPG shooter and it’s not coming to .
You’ll never guess where this information comes from, but the new dragon-themed role-playing game from Io Interactive is in fact an Xbox console exclusive.
That was always but now we know for sure, thanks to documents made public at the between Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
One of these documents lists upcoming Io projects, including the still unrevealed new game and Project Dragon. The latter is described as a ‘RPG shooter’ and its formats are listed only as Xbox Series X/S and PC (, which is not thought to be an exclusive, is down as ‘TBD’).
News of the game was first L***ed in 2021, when job listings made it clear that Io is working on a fantasy role-playing game of some kind.
Other rumours suggested that it was open world and possibly featuring multiplayer elements but that was as detailed as anything got.
The idea that it is a shooter is new though and it’s not really clear what ‘RPG shooter’ even means. It could be simply that it’s a standard action role-player, but the term shooter can’t help but bring to mind classic Sega series .
As far as any current information is concerned though there is no direct connection with the franchise, although Panzer Dragoon Orta was an exclusive for the original Xbox console – so the franchise does have some Microsoft pedigree.
The reason Microsoft had Io Interactive’s release schedule is that they were interested in buying them at one point, although it’s not clear why they did not.
One possibility is that Io simply didn’t want to be bought and so perhaps teaming up on this exclusive was a compromise the two worked out.
The revelation of its existence probably won’t do Microsoft’s court case any favours as they’re still trying to imply that it’s Sony that makes all the awkward exclusive deals, and not them.
