Back in June the broadcaster confirmed it has into the facts of Schofield’s departure from the breakfast programme after with a much-younger colleague.

The review’s results are set to be made public in coming weeks and has involved staff being questioned about what they knew by Jane Mulcahy KC.

The presenter has also ‘fully complied and cooperated with everything that has been asked of her by the KC’.

The source added when speaking to that: ‘Holly was more than happy to do what was asked of her, and explain her position, and what she knew, and what she didn’t.’

Just one of the people working on the show who have helped Mulcahy with her inquiries, senior ITV executives including programs boss Kevin Lygo have also been spoken to.

how Mulcahy had been ‘talking to everyone involved’ as she investigates.

He later gave a tell-all interview to the BBC (Picture: BBC)

‘[She has] taken out phones and looking at every text we’ve sent, including emails and WhatsApps,’ he shared while speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

When asked about how ITV handled its duty of care, Lygo said it took the responsibility ‘incredibly seriously’.

‘We haven’t got anything to hide and if we can adapt and change our process to make it better, then we should do it on a continuing basis,’ he added, as reported by Deadline.

‘The most important thing is to get facts and truth, not a hasty judgement.’

‘There is an enormous pressure these days from the press and social media saying, “you’ve got to decide” and “why didn’t you fire him?”, and you just think “well hang on a minute we don’t know what the truth is yet.”.’

He explained that ITV would ‘act accordingly’ once the outcome had been revealed.

Soon after Schofield admitted to lying about his affair to bosses and colleagues, ITV released a statement in which it said it felt ‘badly let down’ and ‘deeply disappointed’.
