ITV is reportedly planning to film a two-week-long series of this summer, in addition to the usual series – featuring some of fans’ favourite old faces.
The hit reality show has been on for nearly 20 years, with and remaining at the helm for nearly all of that time.
But like pretty much every popular programme on the box, it was affected by the Covid outbreak and moved to Wales for two years.
With the hosts – and everyone else – it is claimed the broadcaster is making backup plans in the event this can’t happen in the winter.
It’s thought this would be recorded in South Africa in July and is planned to be shown in 2023, after viewers get the usual fun in November – which would feature past faces from the past two decades.
A show source told Metro.co.uk: ‘The team behind I’m A Celebrity are making a brand new spin-off of the hit series, this time set in South Africa.
‘It will be hosted by Ant & Dec and will feature the most loved, favourite camp mates from previous years. – The show is still very much based in the world of I’m A Celeb – the campmates will be doing trials and living in the camp environment, but with fresh and exciting new twists on the format.
‘The campmates will have a hand in their own destiny through a series of internal votes and challenges.
‘This new edition is likely to air in 2023 but before that viewers will get to enjoy the show’s much-anticipated return to Australia in November.’
It comes after it was reported the show would be using the summer format as a potential backup for the usual series later this year, as reported by .
Elsewhere, it was speculated I’m A Celeb , despite Ant and Dec previously revealing plans for an Australian comeback.
Last week, it was reported that custodians of the castle ‘have applied for approval to keep the temporary structures built by crew for another year’.
But in March, Rosemary Newell, ITV’s Director of Content, confirmed I’m A Celebrity would finally be returning to its longtime home.
‘We expect a celebrity to return in Australia in November when it will generate an audience of over 11 million,’ Newell said.
In 2020 and 2021, both series took place at the freezing Gwrych Castle, in north Wales.
It was a back-to-back win for soap stars, with podcaster Giovanna Fletcher becoming Queen of the Castle in 2020, and Emmerdale’s Danny Miller following suit a year later.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns later this year to ITV.
