Finishing second, Sam’s track Space Man did more than lift us to new heights at the Eurovision Song Contest, it sent his career out of this world.

It peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart, becoming since Gina G’s Ooh Aah… Just a Little Bit in 1996.

Even though Sam didn’t quite win Eurovision 2022, his second place position means that, with winners unable to host, the UK got to step up. And step up we have.

The semi-finals were a true spectacle, with hosts and Alesha Dixon dragging up, and rousing performances from the likes of and Rebecca Ferguson.

The Eurovision star, TikTok sensation and bonafide rockstar will perform his new single, Mountain, live.

Other artists also performing throughout the evening are 2022 winners Kalush Orchestra and several of Ukraine’s other previous acts, including Ukraine’s 2021 entrants Go_A, the country’s Eurovision, 2016 winner Jamala, and Tina Karol and Verka Serduchka.

What has Sam Ryder done since Eurovision 2022?

Since wowing Europe at last year’s song contest, Sam Ryder has hit many career milestones.

In September 2022, he performed Queen’s Somebody to Love alongside original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor at a tribute concert for Taylor Hawkins at Wembley Stadium.

He then embarked on his first European tour, spanning 19 dates, beginning in Cologne, Germany and concluding in London.

In December 2022, he released his debut album, There’s Nothing but Space, Man!

The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and he was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2023 Brit Awards, becoming the first Eurovision act to be nominated in this category.

To cap off his amazing 2022, Sam literally ended the year on a high note with a New Year’s Eve special on BBC One.

Sam Ryder Rocks New Year’s Eve saw the star teaming up with the likes of Melanie C, Sigrid and The Darkness’ Justin Hawkins.
