Warner Bros is set to launch a prequel series based on the IT movies, giving fans a look at the origins of the clown Pennywise.
The series, called Welcome To Derry, will explore the villain and curse that has haunted the town of Derry, Maine, for decades, according to .
Further reports from Variety claim the series will take place in the 1960s, leading up to the events in the 2017 film adaptation IT: Chapter One.
Director of IT: Chapter One and the 2019 sequel, IT: Chapter Two, Andy Muschietti, has also signed up to executive produce and direct the first episode.
His sister, filmmaker Barbara Muschietti, will executive produce with Jason Fuchs, who developed the storyline with them.
Jason is set to write the script for the pilot with Andy directing if the project is ordered to series, with Warner Bros Television producing.
Both of the films, which were adapted from Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel, were big box office successes, with the first movie setting a box office record for the highest-grossing R-rated horror debut in history with a $123.4million (£94million) opening weekend.
It also grossed $701.8million (£534million) worldwide from a $35million (£27million) budget, which made it one of the most profitable movies of all time.
The novel had originally been adapted to a television miniseries in 1990, with Tim Curry starring as the fearsome Pennywise.
As well as the IT prequel series, Warner Bros are also developing a spin-off of The Batman following The Penguin, with Colin Farrell reprising his iconic role.
The company is also developing a spin-off series following the Bene Gesserit from Dune for HBO Max and has also recently renewed Suicide Squad spin off series, The Peacemaker.
