has commissioned a sixth series of their successful drama following the show’s overwhelming support from audiences.
The crime drama – which first aired in 2015 – received widespread critical acclaim and gained a dedicated following on ITV1 and ITVX.
Series five came to a and fans couldn’t contain their excitement at the prospect of another run.
The drama starring Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar saw its opening episode of series five become the most-watched programme on ITV this year.
Audience members took to Twitter to share their admiration for the show’s cast and storylines.
One wrote: ‘What an amazing series of #Unforgotten can’t wait for the next one! [sic]’.
While another penned: ‘This is brilliant news. I was so hoping. Best show on ITV. Stateside and everything. Intriguing #Unforgotten [sic]’.

Sanjeev and Sinéad will both reprise their roles as DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan and DCI Jess James.
Their characters have had a complex on-screen relationship that began with tension and conflict but ultimately developed into a positive dynamic, promising an exciting new partnership for fans to look forward to.
Series six will follow DI Khan and DCI James as they investigate cold cases and unsolved crimes from the past, unravelling secrets and unearthing buried truths along the way.
Further casting for the new series will be announced at the time of production.
Each of the new six episodes is set to be written by Chris Lang who is also known for his work on Innocent, The Hookup Plan, Dark Heart, A Mother’s Son and the recently BAFTA-nominated ITV drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe.
Following the news, lead actress Sinead took to her own social media to thank the fans for their warm welcome.
Alongside a selfie in character, she typed: ‘A great big fat thank you to you all for being so lovely about Unforgotten. And a particularly massive thank you to @ChrisLangWriter @mainstreetpics @TVSanjeev @verbalictor &all the brilliant cast & crew for having me. It was a joy x [sic]’.
