Early life

Steve Vidgen and Rachel Hayton are Vidgen’s parents; he is their son. From 2007 until 2010, Vidgen gave performances at a variety of events that took place in Sydney. These events included the Schools Spectacular, the Eisteddfod, and the local Christmas carols. He also learned how to play the piano and the guitar by teaching himself. The Balgowlah Boys High School was where he received his education. After winning the 2011 season of Australia’s Got Talent, Vidgen decided to stop attending his high school and instead pursue his education through home study. It was reported that he underwent surgery in March 2014 to have a growth removed from behind his eye. Vidgen is not ashamed to be gay.

In 2011, Vidgen sang a cover of Whitney Houston’s song “I Have Nothing” at his tryout for the fifth season of Australia’s Got Talent. The performance was met with enthusiastic applause from both the panel of judges and the public in attendance. Before the audition, judge Kyle Sandilands commented, “You’re either going to be wonderful or horrible – both I will appreciate,” while judge Brian McFadden was so moved by the performance that he ran up on stage to kiss Vidgen’s cheek once it was over.
