The 35-year-old played the potty-mouthed and girl-obsessed Jay in the teen sitcom, which followed the misadventures of him and his pals Will (Simon Bird) Simon (Joe Thomas) and Neil (Blake Harrison).
The Channel 4 series, which ran from 2008 until 2010 and has now been criticised for spawned many expletive-heavy catchphrases, including the likes of ‘bus w***er.’
However, Clair, who shares sons Harrison and Jude with the has said she will put her foot down if her boys, who are approaching their teenage years, are tempted to recite their dad’s former lines.
She stated: ‘They would be getting into trouble, the same as any kids would if they said anything too rude.
‘I hope they don’t think they will get a free pass because their dad said it.’
Clair revealed her children were ‘aware’ of The Inbetweeners but had not watched it, adding to : ‘I’m sure when they became a certain age they may want to check it out or maybe they won’t be interested because their dad is in it.

In 2019, The Inbetweeners cast reunited to mark its 10th anniversary in a special titled Fwends Reunited.
However, fans blasted the episode hosted by Jimmy Carr as ‘awful’ and ‘awkward’.
Responding to the backlash at the time, James said on his podcast, Completed It Mate: ‘It became a thing that wasn’t a celebration of this good thing I did in my life, it was me being taken the piss out of for hours on end.
‘I didn’t have the personality or the intelligence to cope with it, especially when you’re up against someone like Jimmy Carr, who’s super quick and super funny.’
The Inbetweeners is available to stream on All4.
