After securing every big artist imaginable on his iconic Carpool Karaoke segment, it’s been revealed that was pretty close to having in the passenger seat.
The actor, 44, from The Late Late Show last year explaining that he wanted to return to the UK and spend time with his family.
Although James sang his final song with , executive producer Ben Winston exclusively told Metro.co.uk how close the team were to securing Queen Bey.
‘We were close at one time and we thought it was going to happen and we were going to do it, and then dates changed and it didn’t end up happening,’ he said.
‘She doesn’t do very much publicly, so it was going to be a tough one, so she’s the one that got away.’
Ain’t that the truth!
However, Ben branded the final carpool episode with the Set Fire To The Rain, 34, as the ‘perfect’ ending after eight years.
Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Harry Styles are just one of many names that have been featured on the popular skit, but James revealed that
‘I think he’s one of the greatest of all time. My fondest memories of singing in a car was we’d go on these 15-hour drives to , because we couldn’t afford to fly.’
‘My greatest memories of our family vacations are all of us singing along to Graceland in the car,’ he told
‘I had this idea of, what if I get my sisters to come out and be in it. My parents could be in it too. I always thought that would have been fun.’
The comedian shared that he will be prioritising his family for now, as they make the move from California to the UK.
James has three children – Max, 12, Carey, eight, and Charlotte, five – with wife Julia Carey, 43, who now need his support.
‘I’m so conscious of the fact that we’re going to move these three small people back to a completely different city, one that they don’t know that well with new schools, new friends, all those things.
Addressing the last few days leading up to the final episode, Ben said: Last night I sat on the studio floor at 11:30pm for about 20 mins, just soaking it all in because I know that this beautiful room that we created is going to be ripped up and destroyed.
‘I’m going to miss working with my closest friends everyday.’
