James May has best response to accusations he’s ‘evil and self-obsessed’

doesn’t sweat over rumours that he is unpleasant and has a rather large ego.

The former Top Gear presenter, 60, has been in the limelight for two decades, after shooting to fame on the series along with and Richard Hammond.

As with any celebrity, the star has revealed that he has been the subject of salacious gossip – but he doesn’t pay any attention to it.

‘One or two people think I’m evil and very self-obsessed. Or that I have a “Do you know who I am?” attitude.

‘A lot of people claim to have met me or know somebody who knows me, when they obviously don’t, so I don’t let it worry me too much,’ he told .

James hosted Top Gear until 2015 when Jeremy was dismissed after being involved in, with the Carklson’s Farm star after.

The broadcaster, along with Richard, also decided to leave the show, explaining they ‘came as a package’ with the trio later swapping the Beeb for Amazon, making The Grand Tour.

Now, The Grand Tour’s future is unclear after Jeremy made vile comments about Meghan Markle in a column, which to Ipso, and reportedly saw Amazon cut ties with the TV personality.

Ipso upheld the complaints after investigating,, while both Jeremy and the piece’s publisher The Sun issued apologies.

While claimed Amazon won’t be working with Jeremy beyond the already commissioned series of The Grand Tour due to the remarks, James has hinted it was drawing to a natural conclusion anyway.

James told ‘nobody’s been cancelled or burned at the stake’, before he admitted the trio are ‘a bit too old for all this now’.

‘We’ll have to stop one day and by my reckoning that terrible day is almost upon us,’ he said.

As for The Grand Tour’s future, James said they’re still signed up for a few specials which they are indeed doing.

Jeremy told  last month what was in store for the next few specials.

He said: ‘For the next one – in fact, the next two – we’re back on slightly scary ground, doing things that we used to do when we were in our thirties and forties.

‘But now we’re in our fifties and sixties, so I’m slightly nervous about the next two.

‘Let’s just say we’re going back to Africa, and this one’s a hard one. It’s hard if you’re young and fit, but I’m really not fit. And I’m very fat. And I’m 63 now.’
