John Boyega has finally had direct contact with his friend Jamie Foxx after struggling to get in touch with the actor following his health issues.
in April after suffering what has been described as a ‘medical complication’.
Celebrities across Hollywood publicly passed on their well-wishes to the Oscar-winning actor and fans grew concerned as weeks passed without any update as to his condition or recovery.
In May, Jamie’s daughter Corinne Foxx spoke out to set the record straight and confirmed her father had been rand was recovering, with reports claiming he had been moved to a rehabilitation centre.
Star Wars actor John stars alongside Jamie in their new Netflix movie They Cloned Tyrone but, of course, his co-star wasn’t able to make the premiere as he continues to recover out of the spotlight.
John, 31, revealed how he was earlier this month but he’s since made contact.
‘He finally picked up the phone. Thank you, bro,’ John .
‘He’s doing well. And then, you know, we just giving him the privacy, and we can’t wait for his return.’
John continued: ‘I gave him the well wishes directly. I gave him all the well wishes. So I’m just gonna be waiting until he comes back out here. So take your time, Jamie. We love you, bro.’
The British actor was backed up by They Cloned Tyrone producer Said Datari Turner, who assured that Jamie was ‘doing amazing’.
‘John Boyega talked to him yesterday. He’s in really, really good shape and spirits. And he’ll be back on the screen. He’ll be back to work very soon,’ she said.
It comes after John detailed his efforts in trying to speak to Jamie on the phone, telling Entertainment Tonight at the film’s premiere in LA on June 15: ‘I wanted him to show up here, but you know, I know he’s dealing with what he’s dealing with, and we just wish him all the best.
‘I’ve been calling, I’m just gonna keep on calling. He better pick up. Come on, Jamie!’
News of Jamie’s health first emerged on April 13 when his daughter Corinne, 29, shared a statement on Instagram explaining: ‘From the Foxx Family: We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,’ she said at the time.
‘Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers.
‘The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family.’
Rumours began to mount about what Jamie’s illness was and a report claimed his family were ‘preparing for the worst’.
This prompted Corinne to speak out to stop the speculation gathering momentum, and she updated fans weeks later stating: ‘Update from the family: “Sad to see how the media runs wild.
‘My dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday!
‘Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support! We have an exciting work announcement coming next week too!”’
