The first look trailer for Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer’s new LGBTQ+ drama Fellow Travelers is here – and it promises, literally, fireworks.
The actor, 35, and the Magic Mike star, 45, play the idealistic and religious Tim Laughlin and the charismatic and political Hawkins Fuller, who begin a clandestine romance in McCarthy-era Washington.
The teaser of the much-anticipated show begins with Matt and Jonathan walking toward one another in a corridor, with the world suddenly going into slow motion when they lock eyes.
As they gaze at each other, the trailer cuts to fireworks, followed by a series of passionate moments from their relationship, including cuddling each other in bed, stealing a kiss in an alleyway and posing for pictures at the seaside.
The 30-second teaser then cuts back to them striding along the corridor, continuing in their separate directions, but grinning from ear to ear.
According to the synopsis, the eight-parter sees Tim and Hawkins begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on ‘subversives and sexual deviants,’ initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history.Â
Over the course of four decades, the characters cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, while facing obstacles in the world and in themselves.
Created by Homeland’s Ron Nyswaner, Fellow Travelers also stars Girls and Get Out actress Allison Williams, The Walking Deads’ Jelani Alladin and American Gods actor Noah J Ricketts.
As well as Fellow Travelers, Jonathan will also be starring in the film version of musical Wicked, which is due to be released in 2024.
Most recently, he guest starred as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race and performed in the West End in Cock.
Meanwhile, Matt was spotted last year with Carey Mulligan and Bradley Cooper. The move is slated for release later this year.
Fellow Travelers premieres on Paramount Plus in autumn.
