Karen Gillan has revealed she totally regrets not making a reference during : Endgame.
The Marvel actress, 34, first rose to prominence for playing Amy Pond in the beloved BBC show, alongside Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor.
Since playing the fan-favourite companion, Karen’s career has gone from strength to strength, having also starred alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart in Jumanji.
Her addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Nebula has seen her appear in several of the franchise’s films, including, most recently, Avengers: Endgame.
One scene in the famously devastating film sees the heroes attempt to figure out the rules of time travel, naming several TV shows and films where the characters travel in time.
However, there was one notable piece of media missing in the discussion.
On Saturday, Karen took to Twitter where she admitted she was ‘haunted’ by her decision not to make a Doctor Who reference during the scene.
The actress was responding to a message from a fan who said he was ‘so disappointed’ in Karen’s appearance in Endgame – because ‘she should [have] said Doctor Who when they were talking time travel in media.’
Sharing the original tweet to her 1.3 million followers, Karen admitted: ‘Honestly the fact I didn’t think of that while filing the scene haunts me,’ along with a laughing emoji.
Fans agreed it was a ‘missed opportunity’ for the actress, with one writing: ‘It would have been iconic!’
Another wrote: ‘In fairness, the examples were all to say how time travel in movies is usually badly done. Unlike Doctor Who, which is obviously wibbly wobbly empirical fact.’
While Karen is a fan-favourite as Nebula in the hugely successful franchise, many still see her as feisty companion Amy – and former Doctor Matt about a possible return for the upcoming anniversary.
With the show turning 60 in 2023, and the return of as showrunner, Matt said he’s happy that Russell is returning but insists he doesn’t know what the future holds.
In an interview with he said: ‘I mean, look, I’m pleased Russell’s back. I think he oversaw one of the great 10 years of Doctor Who.
‘It’s an exciting move for the show, so, I’m sure one of his scripts would be just brilliant.’
However, he quickly put rumours to rest and insisted that he hasn’t heard anything and ‘no one’s picked up the phone yet.’
