has given another update on her severely ill husband , who has been in and out of hospital since suffering complications.
Derek contracted Covid in 2020, resulting in and the 56-year-old being put into a temporary coma and on a ventilator.
Since the pandemic, he has been to the devastation of Kate, with kidney failure, brain inflammation, and liver damage – he now is in full-time care.
Just last week, the Good Morning Britain presenter for the second part of something that began last year, although she didn’t elaborate.
Kate, also 56, did give a on his health while on new podcast with host Peter Leonard.
She shared ‘He is living in the world of the unknown, when he wakes up in the morning it is heartbreaking because it feels as though you are watching someone who may have been inhabiting his old life in his dreams and then he wakes up and you see the cloud descend of the battle he has ahead.
‘But if you look back, there is some progress, he has more words now and his voice is stronger. You occasionally get a little bit of a Chorley accent in there so it feels like he is more present, but he still can’t sit up without assistant and his life isn’t his own.’
Derek’s health issues have changed the lives of the entire family, which includes two children, with Kate frequently taking leave from Good Morning Britain for medical emergencies.
In this latest tragic update, she added: ‘His brain had always been his ally and friend, but now it is his enemy. I think he’s had a big emotional struggle.’
At the Pride of Britain awards in London in October, Kate exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘He’s not doing great, to be honest but the battle goes on.’
The star presenter also confirmed with a simple ‘yes’ that her  for a private meeting with health secretary Steve Barclay had been answered – and that progress was starting to happen.
She had made attempts to reach out to him privately but to no avail, wanting to discuss five points to represent millions across the country struggling in the system.
Derek’s health had taken a turn for the worse in autumn as Kate revealed the severity of her husband’s illness when she explained that he had  that saw him choke and ‘turn blue’.
Speaking with , she shared that Derek, ‘can neither breathe in oxygen nor expel carbon dioxide efficiently’.
Derek was a labour party aide to former cabinet minister Peter Mandelson and the pair have been married since 2005, sharing two children; Darcey and William.
