Like the rest of the UK, we lost it when we saw photos that appeared to show shopping in a Manchester Aldi on Thursday.
The superstar has arrived in the city to attend a glitzy Chanel show on Thursday night, including Kristen Stewart.
Previously held in the likes of and Milan, the Metiers d’Art will showcase in the fashion world on Thomas Street in Manchester’s city centre.
And celebs have been ahead of the major event.
Supermodel Kate was ‘spotted’ in bargain supermarket Aldi, of all places, but alas, as it turns out the whole thing appears to be a PR stunt masterminded by someone very clever – perhaps the supermarket chain itself.
On Thursday afternoon, a paparazzo named Dave tweeted: ‘Shoppers at ALDI thought they saw Kate Moss Shopping in Manchester, in fact it was a Fake Moss stunt for Shopping brand ALDI during the Channel fashion event.’
He also shared some close-up photos of ‘Kate’ that reveal it’s not actually the runway star, but a lookalike.
also confirmed the woman wasn’t actually Kate, saying: ‘The whole thing was PR stunt with a lookalike.’
Local woman Anne Ryan told the she spotted the star in the shop and ‘did wonder why someone was wearing shades on a wintry day.’
She did, however, say ‘Kate’ ‘had a chat at the check-out’ and described her ‘minder’ as ‘very polite.’
‘There was a group of photographers outside and a couple of girls filming on their phones. She did seem a bit over-dressed for a trip to the supermarket.’
The fake Kate continued her exploration of Manchester with a trip to a coffee shop, where she was snapped looking relaxed sitting outside while her security guard kept a watchful eye on the street.
Fans of the star absolutely loved that Kate was supposedly shopping in Aldi, with her bright red bag now the talk of the town, and jokes already being made about what she bought.
One Twitter user suggested she could have picked up a Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake, while local account I Love Manchester wondered ‘if she’s a sucker for those special buys like the rest of us.’
‘I love this chanel thing,’ Twitter user Ciara wrote. ‘Kate moss in ancoats aldi? life changing (sic).’
Chanel said in a statement that they chose Manchester for the major event as it is ‘one of the most effervescent cities of pop culture and an avant-garde one, whose bands, spanning all genres, have changed the history of music.’
Thomas street has been closed for two weeks to prepare for the fashion show, which will see the street essentially turned into massive open-air catwalk.
But because it’s England, and it’s December, the organisers haven’t risked getting rained on, and a glass cover has been erected over the street.
Metro.co.uk has reached out to Aldi and Kate’s reps for comment.
