was hysterical as she spoke with death row inmate Brandon Bernard ahead of his execution in the latest episode of The Kardashians.
The Skims businesswoman was overcome with emotion as and cried inconsolably as he spoke to her about his impending death.
‘First thing that they’ll do is push me in that chair and I don’t want to be panicking and stuff so they have to give me some kind of shot,’ he told Kim.
‘But you don’t gotta be sad.’
As Kim wept the inmate, who was Ki**ed by the state of Texas in December 2020, started to become emotional too, but continued to try and console the hopeful lawyer.
Speaking in a confessional, Kim said: ‘The fact that he was the one who tried to calm me down from crying broke my heart.
‘He was executed. We weren’t able to stop it. But this is why I do what I do, because the system is so broken.
‘The death penalty is so inhumane. I have to fight harder to make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else.’
Bernard, 40, received the death penalty for killing two married youth ministers in 1999.
Aged 18 he was found guilty, alongside accomplice Christopher Vialva, of carjacking and murdering Christian youth ministers Todd and Stacie Bagley at the Fort Hood army base in Texas.
Vialva was executed by lethal injection in September 2020 and Bernard’s case was brought to Kim’s attention in November that same year.
She had made a desperate last minute plea to US president after a judge denied a request to have it halted.
Kim previously told fans her conversation with Bernard was the ‘hardest call’ she’s ever had to make and how she couldn’t say goodbye to him, instead telling him she’d ‘see him soon’.
‘Just spoke to Brandon for what will likely be the last time,’ she wrote on her Instagram Stories at the time.
‘Hardest call I’ve ever had. Brandon, selfless as always, was focused on his family and making sure they are ok.
‘He told me not to cry because our fight isn’t over. When he told me he’s claustrophobic and they offered to give him a shot of sedative to calm him down before they put him in the chair and he just didn’t want to panic, I literally lost it.’
She continued: ‘I had to mute my phone so he wouldn’t hear me cry like that, we didn’t say goodbye [because] we wanted to be hopeful that we would talk again. We said see you soon.’
The Kardashians airs Thursdays on Disney Plus.
