’s former girlfriend Kristen Zang has voiced her frustration around the ‘ageist’ comments she’s noticed since Leo and girlfriend Camila Morrone broke up.

Now Kristen, 48, has opened up on her own relationship with the actor, with the pair having dated for four years in the 1990s, just as Leo was becoming a household name.
She said the narrative around the ages of the women Leo tends to date had made her feel ‘compelled to share a few things,’ and began by saying she and the Beach star had met as teenagers and began dating at 21.
They broke up, Kristen said, a few months after her 25th birthday, adding: ‘ha, I know what you’re thinking,’ and insisted it was a choice she made.
Writing an essay in , Kristen said the Wolf of Wall Street star was ‘a very sweet and thoughtful boyfriend,’ but admitted she was frustrated by the messaging around his most recent breakup.
‘I read the headlines and online comments with his most recent ex girlfriend being referred to as having “aged out” or being “too old for Leo at 25,” puh-lease (insert dramatic eye roll),’ she wrote.
‘I think we can and should do better. What kind of message is this sending to young people?’
The former model recalled her own time in Hollywood, when she and other young models were warned their careers ‘would be over at 21.’
She said she’s happy to see that things appear to be changing in that industry these days, as at the age of 21 or even 25 she had ‘no clue who I was or what I wanted.’
Kristen dabbled in modeling and acting before leaving Hollywood for good and setting up a dog nutrition business, which she calls her ‘true passion.’
Assuring younger women who may feel concerned about 25-year-olds apparently ‘ageing out,’ she insisted: ‘Life gets so much better after 25. Yes, you get more wrinkles but you also get more confidence and more love for yourself.’
She pleaded with people to ‘stop the ageist headlines and comments’ but added: ‘Let’s keep the funny memes coming, they’re stellar.’
A source had previously told People that most recent ex Camila was ‘doing fine’ after the split and is choosing to ‘move on’ with her life.
‘She has a big group of friends that really care about her,’ they said. ‘She is moving on with her life.’
The source added that Camila is ‘not in contact with Leo.’
The 25-year-old, who is the stepdaughter of actor Al Pacino, was forced to hit back at criticism over their age gap at the beginning of their relationship in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
‘There’s so many relationships in Hollywood – and in the history of the world – where people have large age gaps,’ the model argued.
‘I just think anyone should be able to date who they want to date.’
News of their break-up emerged at the end of last month, with a source telling the Sun that things came to a ‘natural’ end.
‘Leo and Camila ended their relationship over the summer,’ they added.
‘There are no bad feelings between them. It just came to a natural conclusion.’
