Lewis Capaldi makes triumphant return to the stage at Glastonbury after taking time off due to mental health struggles

The Scottish star, 26, made a triumphant and smiley return to the stage at on Saturday evening after to gear up for the festival.

He arrived to roaring cheers from thousands of revellers, bursting into his number one hit, Forget Me.

‘This is genuinely quite a surreal thing,’ he told the Pyramid Stage crowd, overwhelmed after jets flew over while he sang.

Although, understandably, the comical star was rather nervous to perform at Worthy Farm, which he described in the most Lewis Capaldi way possible.

‘I am, quite literally, s****ing my pants,’ he said.

Wearing a plain white tee, the Scottsman also joked about it being too warm for a jacket, before fans erupted into chants of ‘take it off’ in a very cheeky moment.

As ever with one of Lewis’s gigs, there were plenty of hilarious moments, like him teasing revellers by pretending to bring out Ed Sheeran for a surprise duet to his song Pointless.

‘Ed Sheeran, ladies and gentlemen,’ he began as fans screamed.

‘…is not f***ing here,’ he then laughed.

Lewis released a heartfelt and honest statement a few weeks back, revealing how he needed time off after struggling with his physical and .

‘This is a really difficult message, and one that hurts me a lot to have to type, but I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury on June 24,’ he wrote.

‘It’s been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of.

‘That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I’m struggling to get to grips with it all.’

The Bruises hitmaker continued in his lengthy message: ‘I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.

‘I need to take these three weeks to be Lewis from Glasgow for a bit, spend some time with my family and friends and do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands.’

He went on to apologise: ‘I know many of you will have spent money on travel or hotels, which I appreciate more than ever with how difficult things are economically at the moment, so I’m extremely sorry for the impact this will have.

‘The fact you’re willing to come out and spend your time, money and love on these shows is beyond comprehension and I feel incredibly lucky.’

Lewis assured he is ‘getting all the help’ he needs right now, from ‘incredible people’ around him for whom he is ‘so grateful’.

The Someone You Loved vocalist concluded: ‘I take none of this for granted and can’t wait to be back doing it again.’
