In just over a week, will officially come to an end, drawing to a close when season 3 is released on Plus, as well as Hulu over in the US. Cue the tears.

Since the start, the spin-off has been an utterly heartwarming watch, while also bringing several important topics of conversation to the fore, including what it can be like to in a religious family, the difficulties of being the new kid at school, mental health issues, body image insecurities and blended families.

While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye – as we could have imagined the series going strong for a few more seasons at least – we can’t deny it’s a wise decision to end on a high… while also leaving certain storylines open-ended for potential future exploration (we hope).

At the end of season 2, Victor () was caught in the middle of a complicated love triangle, which begged the question – does he go back to his boyfriend Benji (George Sear), who he’s had a rollercoaster relationship with but who he cares for deeply? Or should he explore a new romance with Rahim (Anthony Keyvan), a friend of his sister Pilar (Isabella Ferreira) who he took under his wing?

Following the breakdown of their marriage, Victor’s parents, Isabel (Ana Ortiz) and Armando (James Martinez), appear to be on the road to reconciliation, while Isabel is also trying to make amends for not being as supportive as her husband after her son came out as gay.

Having finally embarked on a relationship with Andrew (Mason Gooding), Mia (Rachel Hilson) is facing the prospect of having to move away after her dad Harold (Mekhi Phifer) – who’s expecting a baby with his wife Veronica (Sophia Bush) – is offered a new job at Stanford that he’s reluctant to turn down.

Meanwhile, new romances appear to be on the cards for both Felix (Anthony Turpel) and Lake (Bebe Wood) after their split, as Felix is made aware of Pilar’s feelings towards him and sparks fly between Lake and Andrew’s ex Lucy (Ava Capri), in an unexpected turn of events.

Basically – there are plenty of stories that need resolving by the time season three comes to an end!

In that respect, fans of the show will definitely be satisfied. Plot points continue to be treated with sensitivity and nuance that will certainly set the bar for future teen tales to come.

While this is Victor’s story for the most part, the other storylines don’t fall by the wayside, instead remaining integral parts of the narrative that ensure the show upholds its ethos of being multi-faceted and – most importantly – authentic.

When the love triangle between Victor, Benji and Rahim first emerged, fans were understandably passionate, with many waiting with bated breath to discover which way Victor would go… if he even ends up choosing between them, that is.

Without giving away any spoilers, viewers can rest assured that there will be fresh fuel for debate among the fandom when they’ve watched the new episodes of the show. Whether you agree with the direction of the narrative or not, it just goes to show how much the fans care about these characters – which is always a good thing.

After Rahim was introduced as a new character in season two, he quickly became a fan-favourite (hence the fiery passion behind those shipping him with Victor). The new season delves into his home life, including his Muslim faith, in a way that will make even more people watching around the world feel represented and seen in such a beautiful way, which is what makes Love, Victor – as well as other beloved LGBT+ shows such as – so incredibly special.

Having followed Victor’s discovery of his sexuality for two seasons, it’s refreshing to also witness an all-female relationship develop between Lake and Lucy in the latest outing. Lake’s character development has taken great strides since the start of the show, with her life poignantly reflecting many experiences that young teenage girls often experience, from unrequited crushes to body image struggles.

Plus, having made his debut on the series as what one would perceive as a stereotypical jock-type, watching Andrew’s bond with Victor grow and his relationship with Mia strengthen is one of the most heartwarming aspects of the new season.

Love, Victor season 3 verdict

While we knew ahead of time that the third season of Love, Victor would be its last, it didn’t necessarily feel like the final episode marked the absolute end of this story.

Whether this was intentional or not, we’re hoping this could mean that future spin-offs could be on the cards, especially considering the series is a spin-off itself. How about Love, Adrian (following Victor’s younger brother, played by Mateo Fernandez)? Or Love, Rahim? Or Love… a completely new character? What we’re trying to say is we love this universe and we’re praying we’ll have a chance to revisit it in future.

(Now that we think about it, Love, Lucy does have a nice ring to it…)

If this is the end, Love, Victor is bidding farewell in an entertaining, heartfelt, funny and uplifting fashion, which is all we could have really asked for.

The final eight episodes will be over in a flash before you know it – so make sure you savour every moment.

Love, Victor season 3 premieres on Wednesday June 15 on Disney Plus.
