Machine Gun Kelly has shared his final memories with Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins just days before he died.

The rapper, 31, opened up about meeting Hawkins during the South American leg of the band’s tour just two days .

MGK told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show that the Foo Fighters had planned to watch him and his band at the Estereo Picnic festival, which had been cancelled due to extreme weather conditions.

The Mainstream Sellout star said Hawkins told them he had been ‘super bummed’ not to have been able to see them perform, but they spent time together at a party that evening instead.

MGK explained: ‘Taylor went up to every single one of us and gave us each our moment. Every single one of us, man, down to my assistant.

‘He’s such a beautiful soul, man. The last thing he said was, “I’m just so bummed I didn’t get to see you guys play”.’

The musician hopes he can tell Hawkins’ children about how much the moment meant to him, adding: ‘I really want to thank him and let his kids know that he made us feel — in a time where the outside world, outside of the fans, and the outside world was really coming in hard on us — he made us feel so confident in ourselves and loved.’

He added: ‘Your father is a great, great man and we were all lucky to know him and we all appreciate that night more than anyone will know.’

Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Colombia just two days later, after suddenly falling ill.

The drummer had been part of the Foo Fighters for 25 years, alongside Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee.

He’d joined the band in 1997 after previously touring with Alanis Morissette and news of his death sparked an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians around the world.

The Foo Fighters also announced that they were ‘in light of the staggering loss’, and had also been scheduled to perform at the Grammys on April 3.
