Married At First Sight UK is set to welcome a female same-sex couple for the first time.
After the E4 show made history by introducing , the upcoming new series will include two lesbians with the hope of breaking down stereotypes.
‘Married At First Sight had a male same-sex couple last year, and now they will have a female same-sex couple. Everyone who works on the show is excited that it’s happening,’ an insider said.
‘It’s another small milestone for the series when it comes to diversity and inclusivity. The hope is that including a lesbian couple will break down some stereotypes.’
Filming on the new series of Married At First Sight UK has started and producers are certain the couple will be a hit with viewers.
A number of shows have featured same-sex couples in recent years.
In 2020, Strictly Come Dancing welcomed Nicola Adams and Katya Jones, with former Great British Bake Off star John Whaite pairing with Johannes Radebe last year.
Over on Dancing On Ice, Ian ‘H’ Watkins of Steps fame was partnered with Matt Evers for series 12.
The insider added to the Daily Star: ‘The TV world has made big strides and the landscape has changed a lot. It’s becoming the norm to have a same-sex couple on a big show. Any concerns that viewers weren’t ready for it were wrong.’
Last year’s Married At First Sight UK has seen several success stories, with gay couple Matthew Jameson and Daniel McKee still head over heels in love.
Last month, Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling revealed that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple, who first met at the altar in E4’s reality series, are set to become parents in just a few months’ time.
‘We’re so excited,’ Tayah enthused. ‘And the thing is we weren’t even trying! It just happened. I can’t believe it. We’re obviously just very fertile.’
