Actor will miss upcoming performances of Plaza Suite in New York after testing positive for Covid-19, just over a week after .
The star of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is currently performing in the Broadway show alongside his wife, actress .
Making the announcement on the show’s official Twitter account on Tuesday, the production’s statement read: ‘Matthew Broderick tested positive before today’s performance of Plaza Suite, despite strict adherence to COVID safety protocols. A second test has confirmed the diagnosis.
‘Sarah Jessica Parker has tested negative and will perform this evening.’
It finished by sending wishes of a ‘speedy recovery’ to the 60-year-old actor.
Performances of the show will continue, and Broderick is expected to return on April 15.
Parker, 57, whose SATC reboot And Just Like That recently got , acted opposite her husband’s stand-in on Tuesday night, Tony Award-winner Michael McGrath.
Just last week, Parker was pretty in pink in an embellished floor-length gown while her husband donned a dark suit and green patterned tie to celebrate the opening night of the play.
They were also joined on their big night by their three children, James, Marion and Tabitha, for a rare family outing in New York.
The production of Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Neil Simon’s classic play is directed by fellow Tony winner John Benjamin Hickey, and sees the real-life husband and wife play three different couples who are staying at the Plaza Suite hotel.
It began a limited run at the Hudson Theatre in New York on February 25 after a lengthy initial delay.
The couple was originally set to appear on stage in the production in 2020, before the pandemic hit.
The production is the first time they have shared the stage since 1996, in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
‘We’re overjoyed to finally be able to welcome Broadway audiences to the Hudson Theatre to see Neil Simon’s celebration of New York, New Yorkers, and the wonderful ways they fall in love,’ Matthew and Sarah Jessica said in a statement at the time.
‘We simply can’t wait.’
Macbeth is also currently dark on Broadway until Friday April 8 after cast members, thought to include Bond star Daniel Craig, on Saturday.
