A Mean Girls star has shared some behind the scenes info on how long it took to do character Emma Gerber’ hair for the iconic movie’s prom scene and – spoilers – it did not take hours, as claimed.
Actress Jan Caruana, who appeared as Emma Gerber in the film, which has , was name checked by ’s Cady in her Spring Fling Queen speech as she breaks the crown into pieces and distributes it to her classmates.
After getting candid about the events of the movie and apologising for the infamous Burn Book while up on the stage, Cady adds: ‘I think everybody looks like royalty tonight. Look at Jessica Lopez. That dress is amazing. And Emma Gerber. I mean, that hairdo must have taken hours and you look really pretty.’
However, TV personality Korey Kuhl had thoughts while watching the popular comedy movie, penned by alumna , 18 years after its release, and tweeted: ‘I guess I just don’t believe that Emma Gerber’s hairdo “must’ve taken hours”.’
Caruana, who is still acting and writing according to her Instagram, saw his query and was happy to respond, admitting of the reasonably simple-looking updo with fringe: ‘At first it took about 25 minutes. Then I got sent to set and the director said “that doesn’t look like it took hours.”
‘So I was sent back to hair and they stuck some flowers in it and I got sent back again. So in total… Maybe one hour.’
Fans were delighted to see her pop up on social media, with one asking, ‘Jan, what’s it like to be on TV every single day of your life?’, to which she responded: ‘I just hope the kids still like it.’
Another viewer exclaimed: ‘I was ready to go to war for that hairstyle saying it was probably intricate in the back so thank you for clearing this up!’
‘You’re welcome,’ Caruana replied. ‘I truly don’t remember the back, so we can all live peacefully.’
Emma Gerber went on to receive one of Cady’s broken pieces of prom queen crown as she threw them into the crowd after sharing it with Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan), Regina George (Rachel McAdams) and Gretchen Wieners (Lacey Chabert) – whose own hair is full of secrets, lest we forget.
