Mercury Prize 2022 has axed the red carpet for tonight’s award ceremony out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II, Metro.co.uk has learned.
It was announced this Thursday afternoon that her majesty is under medical supervision at Balmoral, with the royal family rushing to be by her side amid serious health fears.
The Mercury Prize is set to go ahead as planned this evening, however, it is understood that celebrities in attendance will not walk the red carpet at the Eventim Apollo, .
Harry Styles, Little Simz, and Sam Fender are among the 12 artists leading the charge at this year’s prestigious awards.
The ceremony will see live performances from Sam, Simz, Fergus McCreadie, Gwenno, Jessie Buckley & Bernard Butler, Joy Crookes, Kojey Radical, Nova Twins, Self Esteem, Wet Leg, and Yard Act.
The artists will each perform one track from their shortlisted album.Â
Although he is nominated for the Prize, Harry will not be attending as he continues his US tour. Instead, a filmed live performance will be shown to celebrate his album.
The Queen is said to be comfortable and royal physicians have recommended she stays under medical supervision.

While it was initially reported that Harry and Meghan would both go to Scotland, it has since been confirmed that Meghan would be remaining in London today.
