MF Doom’s wife has questioned measures taken at a hospital in Leeds following the sudden
The rapper – real name Dumile Daniel Thompson – died aged 49 on October 31, 2020, after suffering a ‘rare’ reaction to medication he had been given for blood pressure.
Since his untimely death, his wife Jasmine has raised concerns over his medical care while being treated at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.
Claiming the star was unable to alert medical staff to his deteriorating condition due to his ‘buzzer’ being out of reach, the widow shared her new worries in Wakefield Coroner’s Court.
She is reported to have said that her late husband called her from the hospital as his swelling increased and that he was placed in a room with an ‘old metal desk’ and a collection of books.
According to Leeds Live, the distraught spouse explained the room seemed to be ‘a hospital room a very long time ago’.
She shared: ‘I don’t want to say it was an old storage room…it wasn’t set up. Maybe it was a room a long time ago. It did have a bed in it.’
Despite her claims, medics outlined the room was one of several that were connected to the emergency department.
Jasmine explained that she was unable to visit her husband in the hospital due to Covid restrictions and said: ‘I was not able to see him until the 31st (of October) – that’s when the respirator was turned off that was helping him breathe.’
During the inquest, it was revealed the rapper had raised concerns over his breathing on the day that he died and suffered respiratory arrest while trying to get off a hospital trolley.
Years on, his spouse and her legal team questioned the quality of his medical care and how often he was checked on while in the ward.
In December 2020, Jasmine alerted fans to the sad news via an Instagram post and a heartfelt message that read: ‘Begin all things by giving thanks to THE ALL!
‘To Dumile, The greatest husband, father, teacher, student, business partner, lover and friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for all the things you have shown, taught and given to me, our children and our family.
‘Thank you for teaching me how to forgive beings and give another chance, not to be so quick to judge and write off.
‘Thank you for showing how not to be afraid to love and be the best person I could ever be. My world will never be the same without you.
‘Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet. All my love, Jasmine [sic].’
The inquest into the star’s death is still ongoing.
