Following the release date of last week, fans have been raving over the visually-arresting, immersive, brutal and funny nature of Marvel’s latest show on Plus.
Just as the trailer teased, the cast – which includes in the lead role and as antagonistic cult leader Arthur Harrow – are in for a wild ride, taking them from the rainy streets of all the way to the sandy dunes of the desert.
The next episode will presumably continue to follow awkward museum gift shop worker Steven Grant as he discovers more about the other identity that he can hear in his head, Marc Spector, as well as the Egyptian moon god who made Marc his avatar.
Some viewers may be wondering where the series was filmed and if production took place where the tale is actually set.
Having seen the first episode, they may be surprised to learn that the English capital wasn’t actually used as a backdrop, despite it appearing as though Steven works at a museum in Trafalgar Square.
Where was Disney Plus show Moon Knight filmed?
One of the principal locations shown in episode one is London, as that’s where Steven lives and works.
It’s made to look as though he works at a museum in Trafalgar Square, where the National Gallery – an art museum – is actually located.
However, rather than use the actual Trafalgar Square and National Gallery for the show, the National Art Museum of Hungary was used as a stand-in for the exterior of London’s National Art Gallery, with the Hungarian museum boasting a similar-looking entrance.
With some of the filming evidently taking place in Hungary large-scale practical sets on soundstages were built at Origo Studios in Budapest.
The 10 stages, which included eight soundstages and two VFX/multimedia stages, measured at 195,000 square feet in total.
To recreate the streets of Brixton in London, the creators of Moon Knight used a market street in Budapest and changed the signs.
A restaurant was also dressed by the set designers to look as though it was in Soho.
As well as Budapest, some of the other filming locations included Slovenia, Jordan and Atlanta in the US.
When Moon Knight was in the process of being made, Oscar and Ethan were spotted jogging in Budapest, with the Boyhood star explaining that they used that time to get to know each other and discuss their characters.
‘There was a quarantine going on, so we had very little access to do much of anything. That city is actually incredibly beautiful. And yeah, we both realised that we like to run,’ Ethan told .
‘So it was a great way to talk and get to know each other and make small talk about the show and work out problems with our scripts. That’ll probably be what I remember most about our summer. Just battling out the scripts as we ran around Budapest.
How many episodes are there?
There will be six episodes of Moon Knight in total.
Moon Knight is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
