Netflix fans devastated after huge show is cancelled four years after first and only season

fans have been seeing red after Ratched was officially cancelled.

The series, which was , was based on the 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and focused on Nurse Ratched, .

The prequel series, which was created by American Horror Story creator , was set in 1947 and told the story of Mildred Ratched before she became the cold-hearted nurse portrayed in the novel.

Although it was, it’s now been confirmed that won’t be going ahead.

After four years, it was Paulson who revealed the news when being asked by a fan outside the stage door of her Broadway play Appropriate, who filmed the exchange and posted it on social media.

When asked if another season was on its way, she simply replied: ‘No.’.

Despite the news not being that surprising, many fans of the series were still disappointed finding out their hopes for another season were now over.

‘Ratched officially being cancelled depresses me no one talk to me,’ Rachel Ciccone posted on X.

‘Sarah Paulson, thank you for not giving us false hope. I’m also sad because Ratched was a banger,’ Tyler shared.

User Seny wrote they were ‘holding on to hope for the longest time’ that the show would be back on screens soon.

Toni Torrelli added: ‘THEY CANCELLED RATCHED!! Yeah, I’m never subscribing ever again.’

However, Clara pointed out: ‘It came out FOUR YEARS AGO. I had assumed it was already cancelled. You cannot have these long stretches between seasons and still expect audiences to care.’

Others said they were ‘under the impression it was a limited series’ anyway.

The origin story also starred Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon, Finn Wittrock, Jon Jon Briones, Charlie Carver, Judy Davis, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer, Corey Stoll, Sophie Okonedo and Vincent D’Onofrio.

After its first season, the show picked up four Emmy nominations, including one for Best Guest Actress for Sophie, who played Charlotte Wells, a patient with dissociative identity disorder.
