viewers couldn’t hide their disgust after tuning into the documentary on serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
The three-part limited series – directed by Joe Berlinger – follows the story of the aspiring politician who worked as an entertainer at children’s birthday parties while dressed as a clown.
The show’s official synopsis says: ‘He dined with the powerful. He preyed on the vulnerable. Beneath a smiling exterior was the horrifying darkness of a sadistic serial killer.’
Gacy was sentenced to death by lethal injection after confessing to murdering 33 young men and boys.
The controversial programme made its debut on Wednesday April 20, and it’s safe to say fans were left repulsed by it.
One disgusted viewer wrote: ‘Just watched John Gacy’s documentary, and I’m sick to my stomach. Like, no remorse whatsoever. Truly sick.’
‘This John Gacy Netflix docu shooked me.. That’s probably one of the most disturbing documentaries I’ve seen,’ another added.
A third wrote: ‘I was not prepared for this Netflix doc series on John Gacy. I know something of him, obviously. But oof. I didn’t know all this. Heartbreaking.’
Director Berlinger who was also behind the Ted Bundy drama film – starring and – revealed that a member of the ‘legal team reached out and said the tapes were available.’
Speaking to , he said: ‘Their excavation footage has never been seen before and that’s truly horrifying material.
‘There’s still ongoing efforts to identify the remaining, [victims] I do have hope.
‘DNA technology is amazing, these guys are committed to identifying everybody.’
