Yet more rumours claim there’s a Nintendo Direct this week and one proven source claims to know two of the games that will be featured.

Unlike with other companies, Nintendo rumours almost never turn out to be true, with one of the few exceptions being Nintendo Directs – which do often get L***ed before they’re officially announced.

Several different sources suggest that , and possibly this week, with one particular leaker, who correctly predicted the existence of both and Sonic Superstars, claiming to know two of the games that will feature.

Pyoro not only predicts that the next Nintendo Direct will be this week but that it will feature a brand new 2D Mario game and a remake of an unspecified SNES title.

There’s no more information than that, so it’s unclear whether the Mario game is a continuation of an existing sub-series, some kind of tie-in to the movie, or something to do with the oft-rumoured.

Ignoring Super Mario Maker and mobile title Super Mario Run, the last new 2D game was 2012’s New Super Mario Bros. U, which was later .

Although financially very successful, the New Super Mario Bros. games are not popular with most fans, who criticise the titles for their lack of new ideas and bland art style.

However, Pyoro implies that the new game is not part of that series. Exactly what form it will take is unclear though, as is whether Nintendo would try to create something that works as a direct tie-in to The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

The SNES remake is just as big a mystery, although a has been rumoured for a while now.

It could well be that, although the one clue Pyoro offers is a weird GIF of an inflating Yoshi, but whether that is meant to relate to the new Mario game or the remake is unclear.
