A popular new Snapchat filter showing users crying has not been inspired by , despite bizarre speculation.
The Justice League actress took the stand in her defamation trial with last week, and .
Many have started watching the case on a YouTube livestream, and questioned whether the new filter was coincidentally introduced around the same time.
Users flocked to Twitter to discuss the lens, with one questioning: ‘Is it just me or is the new snap chat filter making fun of Amber Heard…’
‘New #AmberHeard Snapchat filter just dropped. Am ded [sic],’ another wrote.
‘LMAOOO they made a Snapchat filter that looks eerily close to Amber Heard facial expressions in court,’ a Twitter user penned.
‘Asif there’s a #amberheard Snapchat filter,’ a follower posted.
However, a spokesperson for the company has confirmed to that there is no truth to the speculation.
In fact, the filter has been in the works for around six months before it debuted on the platform, which means the timeline doesn’t add up, as the bombshell case only began last month.
The company also released the opposite lens, with a huge smile, recently, and insisted that all their filters go through moderation processes.
They vowed that they would never develop a product that makes light of domestic violence.
Depp brought a $50million (£40.6m) lawsuit against Heard over an op-ed she wrote in the Washington Post, in which she discussed her experiences of domestic abuse.
Although the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was not mentioned in the 2018 article, his team has claimed that it implies that he was physically and sexually abusive towards the actress, which he has denied.
They also argued that it damaged his career – while Heard is countersuing for $100m (£81.2m), alleging that he libeled her by calling her a liar.
