No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal has successfully obtained a temporary restraining order against a man who is convinced the late Heath Ledger is living in his house.Â
Ledger, who famously played the in The Dark Knight, died on January 22, 2008 at the age of 28 following an accidental overdose.
However, one man who has allegedly been trespassing on Kanal’s home for several months believes Ledger is alive and still living in the property.
In legal documents, Kanal, 51, reportedly claims the trespasser, George Leonardopoulos, has been turning up at his Los Angeles house unannounced since late January.Â
Leonardopoulos allegedly hopped over the gate on one previous occasion, but is most recently said to have buzzed the intercom and told Kanal’s wife, Erin Lokitz, that he used to live there with the previous owner, who was Ledger.
During the incident last week, the man reportedly said he bought the house from Ledger in 2005 and that he thinks the late actor is still living there.
At one point, , Leonardopoulos asked Kanal and his wife to ‘wake’ Ledger, allegedly stating: ‘[If] you know what is good for you, you will let me in.’Â
The legal papers are said to feature claims that Leonardopoulos was spotted wielding a large stick and a knife, prompting Kanal to call the police.
A judge granted a temporary restraining order on Friday, stating that Leonardopoulos must stay 100 yards away from Kanal’s family and their home until the next hearing later this month, when the next course of action will be determined.
Ledger, who would have turned 43 on April 4, was found unresponsive at his apartment in Manhattan, New York City just over 14 years ago. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the cause of death was later determined to be ‘acute intoxication’ of various medications.
He was survived by daughter Matilda, now 16, who he shares with his actress ex-girlfriend Michelle Williams.
Kanal has been a member of rock group No Doubt since 1987, notably alongside frontwoman Gwen Stefani who he famously dated, but they are currently on hiatus.
He and wife Erin share two children, Coco Reese, 11, and Saffron Rose, eight.
