will take centre stage as the legendary British highwayman Dick Turpin in a new show. Yes, really.
The presenter is set to front the as of yet untitled comedy series, which will be directed by Ben Palmer, who was behind The Inbetweeners Movie and Breeders.
‘In this irreverent retelling, Dick is the most famous, but least likely of highway robbers whose success is defined mostly by his charm, showmanship, and great hair,’ the synopsis teases.
‘Together with his gang of loveable rogues, Dick rides the highs and lows of celebrity — and does what he can to escape the clutches of the Thief Taker General.’
Further details about the cast and release date are currently under wraps but judging by the first look images, a trailer could soon be on the horizon.
Highway robber Dick Turpin had joined a gang of deer thieves by the 1730s and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer.
He is also known for a fictional 200-mile overnight ride from London to York on his horse Black Bess, a story that was made famous by the Victorian novelist William Harrison Ainsworth almost 100 years after Turpin’s death.
On 22 March 1739, Turpin was found guilty on two charges of horse theft and sentenced to death. He was hanged at Knavesmire, North Yorkshire, on 7 April 1739.
Noel hasn’t just been busy filming for the new Apple TV Plus series, as he was recently spotted of Bake Off.
While he was out and about running errands, the Mighty Boosh actor was seen with a cup of coffee in one hand and a pack of his freshly steamed snazzy shirts in the other.
Noel’s funky shirt collection has been hot topic on the Channel 4 competition for some years, with Big Big Theory star Kaley Cuoco revealing herself as a fan of the comedian’s attire.
