He might play a Jedi Master in the universe, but star Ewan McGregor has revealed he’s just as dorky as the rest of us in real life.
In just a couple of months’ time, the actor will be returning to the sands of Tatooine in his very own Plus series, in the prequel trilogy was released.
While he may have needed to brush up on his lightsaber wielding skills when he reprised his iconic role, first played by Alec Guinness in the original movies, Ewan has revealed he kept in the Jedi mindset while going out about his day-to-day life.
During a recent interview, the Moulin Rouge star confessed using the finger-sliding move with the Force when standing in front of automatic doors ‘for his own amusement’.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: ‘I always do a little Jedi move for the doors and I have occasionally been caught doing it.’
‘You know, like at the supermarket or something when I’m wheeling my trolley out and I do a little…’ he continued, performing the gesture with his hand.
Ewan said that doing so ‘makes him laugh’ – although when he’s been spotted doing so, he dos feel slightly embarrassed.
‘It’s just always for my own [amusement], because it makes me laugh, but occasionally I’ve been caught doing that, and that’s kind of embarrassing,’ he stated.
‘It’s difficult not to, isn’t it? It’s fun. If the timing is right, it feels very powerful.’
While Ewan enjoys using the Force to feel powerful when doing his grocery shop, he admitted that he’s never tried out Obi-Wan’s legendary Jedi Mind trick.
Nonetheless, that hasn’t stopped others from accusing him of doing so.
‘Have I ever tried to use a Jedi mind trick? Not really. I mean, I’ve been accused of doing it here and there by people who are trying to be funny, but, no, I don’t think so,’ he said.
When Obi-Wan Kenobi comes out on May 25, it will mark the 45th anniversary of the release of the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, in 1975.
He will be joined in the show by Hayden Christensen, returning to portray Anakin Skywalker, who went on to become the dreaded Darth Vader.
Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres on Wednesday May 25 on Disney Plus.
