Olympian revealed that her twin brother Alex died after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
The star shared the devastating news with her Instagram followers where she shared a picture of the two along with a heartfelt statement.
She penned: ‘Alex Pendleton 24.09.80 – 22.06.23.
‘If you know me then you likely know my twin brother Alex, I just wanted to let you know that this morning Alex sadly passed away after an epic battle against an aggressive brain tumour. He will be painfully missed by many.’
She continued: ‘Rest in peace my kind, brave twinnie, you will forever be in our hearts.’
Friends of the cyclist paid their condolences, with presenter commenting: ‘Oh I’m sorry Vic x.’
TV personality added: ‘I am so so so sorry Vic. Sending you all my love.’
Sky Sports star wrote: ‘Oh I am so sorry Victoria, sending so much love to you all.
replied: ‘I am so so sorry to read this Vic #sending much love to you and family Xx.’
The siblings grew up in Bedfordshire with their older sister Nicola, their amateur cyclist father Max and mother Pauline.
Pendleton is one of the most successful Olympians in British history, having won the gold medal twice, as well as a silver medal.
In 2018, the jockey and former track cyclist, 42, admitted that she ever since she was forced to turn back from a charity climb up Mount Everest.
Pendleton, who won Gold and Silver medals at the London 2012 summer olympics, conceded however that the failure to make it to the summer ‘wasn’t about my commitment, focus or fitness, but my physiology and genetics’.
