Ozark has officially come to an end, with on five years after the show first premiered in 2017.
Aside from the epic conclusion of the gripping crime drama, one of the other highlights of the final episodes was a surprise cameo from rapper Killer Mike, as he crossed paths with Ruth Langmore ().
The final episodes saw the tale of financial advisor-turned-money launderer Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) and his wife Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) draw to a close, while Ruth embarked on a warpath for revenge.
However, in a lighter moment, Ruth bumped into Killer Mike in a restaurant, as she stopped by to tell the musician how big a fan of his she is.
Several fans expressed how much they loved his cameo, with one tweeting that their interaction was ‘on another level’ and another saying: ‘Ruth Langmore meeting @KillerMike sets the bar HIGH for these last few episodes.’
Who is the rapper Killer Mike in Ozark season 4?
In episode eight of Ozark season four part two, Ruth approaches Killer Mike to tell him how much she admires him, before he asks what she’s listening to in her headphones.
He takes her earbuds and listens to Nas’ ‘NY State of Mind’, as Ruth says: ‘It always feels to me like he hates it and misses it all at once’.
Killer Mike then remarks that he always found it ‘so hopeful’ and ‘cruel’ at the same time whenever he listened to the record.
Killer Mike, real name Michael Santiago Render, is a rapper, actor and activist who made his debut in the music industry on Outcasts’s 2000 LP Stankonia.
As well as releasing albums as a solo artist, he’s also a part of the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels, which he formed with rapper and producer EI-P in 2013.
Killer Mike, 47, has gained prominence as an activist over the years, speaking on topics including police brutality, systemic racism and social equality, which he also voices in his music.
Ozark isn’t the first time the musician has made a cameo as himself, having also previously made special appearances in the 2017 film Baby Driver, the 2020 mini-series The Good Lord Bird and the 2006 coming-of-age film ATL.
In 2019, he released a documentary on Netflix called ​​Trigger Warning with Killer Mike, a series that consisted of six episodes and explored issues in America that affect the Black community.
In 2006, the rapper – who has four children – married his wife Shana.
He was a vocal supporter of Bernie Sanders in the politician’s 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, refusing to support Hillary Clinton as a candidate when Sanders dropped out six years ago.
