has admitted that he ‘regrets’ fighting in a brutal challenge, which sees the pair both in tears as they’re pitted against each other.
Towie star Pete and actress Jennifer join winner Amber Gill, EastEnders actress and and ’s AJ Pritchard as the Channel 4 show returns to screens showcasing some pretty intense training.
AJ’s brother Curtis has also signed up for the new series, as well as footballer and former Olympic sprinter Dwayne Chambers.
In tonight’s episode, the first of the new series, Pete and Jennifer are forced to fight each other in the milling task, described as ‘one of the most violent’.
Ahead of the fight, Pete shakes his head as he admits he doesn’t want to ‘fight a woman’, adding in an interview later: ‘I just don’t know if I can fight a bird,’ saying he hates the idea of anyone fighting his mum.
Meanwhile, Jennifer adds in her interview: ‘I’m all for equal opportunities and everything, but I would be a bit scared fighting a fella, because they’re stronger than you and bigger than you.’
The fight results in both of them in tears, after Pete smacks Jennifer in the back of the head, before tearfully saying: ‘Sorry’ to her, as he admits: ‘I punched her in the back of the head.’
‘Don’t be stupid,’ Jennifer tells him in tears, as the pair hug.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other publications ahead of the episode airing, Pete revealed: ‘I really didn’t want to do it, everyone was f**ked, it did really upset me.’
He continued: ‘I told Rudy [Reyes] I didn’t want to do it, and he said I had to, and he said, “Just get her out quick”.
‘Jen came out like a f**king trooper, I do regret it, I feel awful.
‘If it had been one of the boys, I’d feel different. Jen of all people, I really love Jen and it wasn’t nice to be put in that position.’
Elsewhere during milling, , which she later reflected on and labelled ‘crazy’.
‘They went, “Go,” and I wasn’t expecting her to just go crazy. But she literally just went, “Agh,” and just screamed. I think she shut her eyes, screamed and just went crazy,’ Maisie recalled.
She continued to : ‘I thought, “OK. I need to step up my game”. I was going for a solid minute with just screaming and punching, like a proper cat fight.’
‘I got a couple of good punches in. It wasn’t like a normal boxing ring. It was nonstop.’
Joining Maisie and Ferne, Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones, boxer Shannon Courtenay, and Paralympic high jumper Johnathan Broom-Edwards will join the list of competing stars.
Completing the line-up are Towie star Pete Wicks, and former Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread, who made her name in the javelin events.
