Peter Kay has made his first return to the stage for a tour in 11 years after stepping away from the spotlight in 2017 – and he seemed to have a blast.
The comedian, whose last tour was in 2011, kicked off his Dance For Life tour at the Central Convention Complex on Friday, getting involved by DJing and dancing.
Rocking a sparkly jacket adorned with colourful records as well as a rainbow sweatband, Peter, 48, took to the DJ decks as archive clips of his hit Channel 4 sitcom, Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere, appeared on the big screen.
The comedy legend even danced with an ensemble of fellow dancers,
The dance party show also reportedly featured some in-jokes for Peter’s fans, with Sister Sledge’s We Are Family playing at one point.
The song features the iconic misheard lyric from Peter’s comedy show, which sees him declare: ‘Just let me staple the vicar’.
Peter will host the show again tonight, and then in August as he heads to Liverpool.
He made his long-awaited return to the stage last year for a one-off comedy show, receiving a standing ovationÂ
The comedian, who also popped up during BBC’s Big Night In during the Covid-19 pandemic, in August and fans were delighted to see him.
Surprised by the reaction, he told the crowd: ‘I’ve never in my life had a standing ovation when I came on.
‘I’m going to go away for four more years.’
Peter cancelled his last tour in December 2017, citing ‘unforeseen family circumstances’, and has kept things low key ever since.
However, he and even created a new Instagram account to promote his new shows.
