has accused Nigel Farage of trying to ‘ruin’ his explosive interview with Donald Trump, his first guest for the long-awaited TalkTV show Uncensored.
The former UKIP leader confirmed he sent a dossier of everything Morgan has said to the former president ahead of their chat, which inevitably affected the interview.
Morgan announced last night that the first guest on his new TalkTV show Uncensored, which launches next week.
A dramatic video trailer teasing the chat showed Trump clashing with the ex-Good Morning Britain presenter over his claims that the last was rigged, it then appeared to show him storming off camera.
Trump has since claimed the clip has been ‘doctored’, although Morgan has defended the interview, and is now claiming Farage had tried to sabotage it.
In a Youtube video, titled ‘The truth about Piers Morgan’s Fake News’, Farage confirmed he handed Trump a document that detailed critical comments Morgan had made.
Farage recalled visiting Mar-a-Lago days before the interview took place and telling Trump that Morgan had ‘gone around boasting in the UK media’ that he was his friend while also ‘behind your back stitching you up for a long time’.
He said he had told Trump: ‘If you do this interview, here is the truth,’ before handing him the dossier.
He added: ‘Trump was extremely displeased. The interview, because of that, wasn’t quite the friendliest it ever could have been.’
He concluded: Trump ‘has been completely and utterly stitched up by Piers Morgan. It is disgraceful. It is disgusting.’
Taking to Twitter to accuse the former politician of the sabotage, Morgan wrote: ‘Actually, Nigel, the only stitching up was done by you when you sent him that dossier of my criticisms (which I stand by) in a pathetic attempt to ruin my Trump interview.’
He added that the move was ‘especially graceless after I congratulated you after yours.’
‘Fortunately, it backfired & I got a corker!’ Morgan said.
Speaking on Lorraine this morning, Morgan had mentioned the clash between Farage and himself, saying the reason why Trump’s interview looked unlikely to go ahead was because: ‘Somebody close to Nigel Farage, who works for a competitor, sent Mr Trump a three-page dossier of all the criticism I’ve made of him during the pandemic and after the election.’
He added that he ‘always tries to be fair about Trump’, agreeing with Lorraine that his columns are balanced.
The former US president has reacted quite badly to the promo for the explosive interview, claiming it has been edited, despite not having seen the full interview yet.
‘Piers Morgan, like the rest of the fake news media, attempted to unlawfully and deceptively edit his long and tedious interview,’ the businessman said in a statement.
‘He wanted to make it look like I walked out on the interview when my time limit of 20 minutes went over by an hour. The interview was very strong on the 2020 election fraud, with me calling him “a fool” if he truly believed those results.’
The statement continued: ‘For those who want to make Piers look bad, compare his video promo and how it was doctored to the real thing. Hopefully, they will now be doing some big changes to their final product.’
Morgan fired back at Trump’s comments while thanking him for his time and a ‘great interview’.
‘Sorry you got so annoyed that I don’t believe the 2020 election was rigged or stolen from you, but as I said, where’s your proof?’ he said.
‘If you have it, show us – or accept the result and move on.’
Piers Morgan Uncensored launches on Monday at 8pm on TalkTV.
