Piers slammed the idea he was hissed at by the star-studded crowd and suggested the supposed negative reaction was intended for the evening’s MC rather than himself.
He said on Piers Morgan Uncensored: ‘It didn’t sound like that in the room, this is what happened,’ and proceeded to play reruns of the moment from the award show.
Following the footage, he turned to his panel guests and exclaimed: ‘I haven’t heard cheering like that since One Direction re-formed.’Â
He went on to deliver what he thought was the cause of the ‘low-level smattering of boos’ during the segment.
The star suggested: ‘I think it was aimed at this host, this guy who I’d literally never heard of – does anyone know who he is?’
Confusion ensued as the show’s guests struggled to identify Joel to which Piers replied: ‘So none of us know his name, this guy, he had two whacks at me, I think they were just booing the badness of the jokes.’
‘When it came to actually celebrating our show as you heard, just a standing ovation, right up there… although I wouldn’t compare it to The Beatles, I just did,’ he concluded.Â
The broadcaster went on to thank his viewers for their continued support and vowed to win next time, later on in his show admitting losing to Graham ‘p***es [him] off’.Â

He posted the image to his Instagram account and grimaced as commuters crowded into the carriage while he clutched the handrail and a bottle of water in his free hand.
