After resigning from two weeks ago, Schofield, 61, then admitted he’d engaged in anwith a younger male colleague.
While the pair had met when the young man was 15, Schofield has said the affair only began when the man was 20 years old.
Now he has , describing in one how he has now ‘lost everything’.
While many people have in the past few weeks, one person who has come to his defence is former ITV colleague and host Piers, 58.
Posting on social media on Friday following the release of the interviews, Piers made his position on the matter clear.
‘Unless Phillip Schofield’s ex-lover contradicts his version of events to The Sun and BBC, then it’s time to stop this relentless persecution of a guy who’s lost everything and looks right on the edge to me,’ he wrote on Twitter.
‘He doesn’t seem to have committed any crime, and he’s not a Govt minister.’
When Schofield first admitted to the affair, Piers, simply writing: ‘Blimey.’
But soon after he revealed that the long-time This Morning host had confided in him and explained how Schofield wasabout not being given a chance to ‘say goodbye’ to his ‘large, loyal audience’ on air.
In his interview with , Schofield said he of his confession.
‘I am in a very bad way,’ he said. ‘Mentally, utterly, utterly broken.’
He then explained he was not sleeping or eating and his mind was ‘in constant, utter turmoil’.
‘I do not think I will be able to walk down a street ever again. It is like everybody knows,’ he said.
The presenter also expressed his devastation upon realising he , which he labelled his ‘safe space’ ever again.
