strides into May, featuring new critters to catch and a new community day for fans to dig into.
While it may not headline like it used to, Pokémon Go is still as popular as ever and regularly supported with different events each month.
Developer Niantic are now encouraging players to get out and play more, after making the game easier to play indoors during the pandemic, and with the weather for May looking promising, it might be just the right time to jump back into the game.
May doesn’t have any particular significance in the calendar year, but there are still plenty of things going on during the month.
Alolan Geodude community day – May 21
In Pokémon Sun and Moon, new versions of classic pokémon were added to the game. These were often inverses of the original, so far example the fire-type Vulpix became an ice-type and fan favourite Diglett suddenly sprouted hair.
Alolan Geodude differs to its original version in that it has access to electric based moves on top of the rock-type. This also alters its evolutions, Graveler and Golem, as well.
If you manage to evolve an Alolan Graveler to a Golem, which can be done by feeding it 100 candies (earnt by acquiring an excess number of a pokémon and trading them into the professor) during the event, you’ll be rewarded with a Golem who knows rollout.
This community day is the first time the move rollout will be introduced to Pokémon Go.
A special ticket will go on sale for 79p, giving you access to the ‘A Rocky Road’ research story. Niantic will also let you gift the ticket to a friend as well.
The event bonuses being activated during the event include:
- Three times the stardust for catching pokémon
- Two times the candies for catching pokémon
- A two-times increase to the chance of getting Geodude XL Candy when you catch an Alolan Geodude
- If you use a lure module or incense, they’ll last for three hours
- A maximum of two special trades can be made
- Alolan Geodude will photobomb you if you take a picture
- Trades require 50% less stardust to do
30 Ultra Balls will also be available in the shop for free.
As there’s an obvious time limit on the event, to acquire the Alolan Golem with rollout, it should be noted that any Geodude you catch before the event and trade in for candies will contribute towards the 100 needed to evolve Alolan Graveler.
May events in Pokémon Go
The only other event currently taking place in May is scheduled for Spain. If you’re interested and local to the area, or on holiday at the time, Niantic are selling tickets for .
Although May is fairly quiet, June appears to be a big month, as that’s when the game will be hosting its global event Pokémon Go Fest. This is a two-day event that takes place on the weekend of June 4. It’ll be followed up with a finale event on Saturday, August 27.
We will update this page as soon as any other events get added for May.
