Speaking with activist Miranda Whelehan from the group, who appeared opposite journalist Lowri Turner to debate the disruptive approaches that the group takes for its protests, Richard called its name ‘childish’.
‘This Just Stop Oil slogan is very playground-ish, isn’t it? Very Vicky Pollard. It’s quite childish.’
Vicky Pollard is the famous sulky teen ‘yeah but no but’ creation of from his hit show Little Britain with David Walliams, which .
As Miranda shook her head and reacted with visible surprise to his comments, he added: ‘Just Stop Oil. I mean, come on, there’s more to say than that, isn’t there?’
However, viewers at home were not impressed by Richard’s remarks as Miranda fought back, arguing that ‘the answers actually are very simple’.
‘We need to stop new oil licensing, and that’s what we’re asking,’ she said.
One viewer, who accused Richard of ‘trying to replace Piers Morgan’ tweeted: ‘Protesters blocking the depots aren’t exactly my favourite people.
‘But putting words in this ladies [sic] mouth ‘you’d accept wouldn’t you’ then ‘just stop oil is very playground and very Vicky Pollard’ is grim interviewing.’
Another commented that the Vicky Pollard comparison was ‘shameful,’ and accused the presenter of ‘bullying’ the eco activist.
‘He still thinks it’s the 80s and kids know who Vicky Pollard is,’ joked one watcher.
‘The just stop oil slogan is straight to the point and effective,’ wrote one supporter. ‘Its Richard Madeley who is very playgroundly. Maybe we should all boycott GMB until the [sic] replace him.’

However, plenty were not happy with and its effect on the general public, calling it ‘wrong’ as heated conversations took place online.
