has reportedly quit his role as co-host of quiz show to focus on other career moves.

He’s been a firm fixture on teatime quizzing in the role of Alexander Armstrong’s ‘Pointless Friend’ for 13 years.

But now, Richard will be waving goodbye to gig, as he looks to concentrate on his work as a successful author.

A BBC source said: ‘Quiz fans and housewives all over the country will
be gutted by this news. Richard has become a staple of the daytime
schedule but sadly all good things must come to an end.

‘Richard has loved every second of doing the show alongside Xander but
he really wants to give his all to his writing career which has been
an enormous success.

‘His departure is completely amicable but he just does not have enough
hours in the day to do everything so sadly something had to give.

‘His literary career is going from strength to strength so he’s having
to be slightly more choosy with what he does TV-wise,’ they reportedly told

He is thought to continue his hosting role on House Of Games for the BBC.

The publication claims he will instead be replaced by a rotating string of co-hosts, as Alexander remains with the series.

he could be set to quit before, after his book series The Thursday Murder Club made it to the top of multiple bestseller lists.

He previously pointed out that you can film ‘years’ worth of quiz shows quite quickly due to recording about four in one day.

So even after his exit, fans should see him on-screen for a little while.

The TV host is also thought to be continuing to work on Pointless Celebrity specials after exiting from the main show.

Metro.co.uk has contacted the BBC for comment on the reports.

Pointless airs weekdays from 5.15pm on BBC One.
