is back in full force as fans excitedly wait to see what new timelord will bring to the table – with showrunner accidentally giving spoilers.

The plans for the upcoming series are incredibly hush hush following via a rare bi-regeneration – we’re not going to pretend toof that.

Beloved writer and, Russell, 60, couldn’t help but tease a little of what is to come, earning himself a little slap on the wrist.

At a Q&A hosted in ’s BFI Southbank, the Doctor Who legend excitedly told the crowd, including Metro.co.uk, that one episode would contain music icons The Beatles.

When asked about why we so much, Russell replied: ‘I wish I knew the answer and I think every single production team for 60 years been chasing after the answer.

‘We have never tried to describe the doctor or describe Millie (Gibson)’s Ruby. We never pin them down, never say “Oh he’s this, he’s that, she must do this and she must do that.”‘

His enthusiasm got the better of him as he continued: ‘We jumped into every episode – the next episode is completely different. The one after that is The Beatles, it keeps changing.’

Russell was chastised by his production team sat in the front row as well as the interviewer for spilling even a tiny bit of information about the new season.

As the audience chuckled, he cheekily repeated: ‘The Beatles!’

It’s not known how the British pop legends will appear in 31-year-old Ncuti’s debut series but pictures from the set have sparked speculation already about a ’60s episode with the group.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Star, and George Harrison had wanted to star in an episode of Doctor Who back in the day but were not allowed to by their manager.

A performance of Ticket to Ride can be seen on a 1965 William Hartnell episode, however, it is a clip from Top of the Pop rather than the singers starring in the show.

While little is known about the next season, has an official synopsis that hints at more magic and mystery.

It reads: ‘Long ago, on Christmas Eve, a baby was abandoned in the snow. Today, Ruby Sunday meets the Doctor, goblins, stolen babies, and perhaps the secret of her birth.’

Russell was careful not to spill any more secrets but Ncuti and Millie, 19, did reveal their favourite previous Doctors when asked by Buzz Fletcher, the 9-year-old son of Mcfly’s Tom Fletcher.

Ncuti, of course, said , with the pair acting alongside each other in .

Millie gave a shout-out to Matt Smith, who followed David’s Doctor – the first time – and introduced fans to fish fingers and custard as well as some terrible hat choices.

The newly bi-regenerated Doctor added: ‘The role of the doctor is everything. They’re an explorer that has been around for a billion years and so they have so many quirks and intricacies and rage and joy.

‘They’re just full of the whole kaleidoscope of emotion so to pick what I was going to bring out differently, it’s a very hard question so I guess just myself. I guess I bring my black and beautiful self.’

Doctor Who’s Christmas episode airs on Christmas Day at 5.55pm on BBC One and Disney Plus.
