The 57-year-old actress is alongside her 60-year-old husband – who also has been diagnosed with the virus this week – and with both performers now out of action, Thursday’s performance was ‘cancelled’.
In a statement, the show’s producers said: ‘With both Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker positive for Covid, tonight’s performance of Plaza Suite is canceled.’
The team apologised ‘for the inconvenience this has caused’ but stressed that can be changed for a different day or a refund, while noting that updates about future performances will be shared soon.
The statement continued: ‘The producers apologize for the inconvenience this has caused audience members.
‘Ticket holders should contact their point of sale to reschedule for a future performance or obtain a refund. Everyone wishes Matthew and Sarah Jessica a speedy recovery.’
Fans have flooded an Instagram post confirming the news with messaging of support.
One fan wrote: ‘So sorry to hear. Wishing you both a speedy recovery! Saw the show a few weeks ago! It was absolutely fabulous! Get well soon!! (sic)’
Another added: ‘Fast recovery and best wishes. Disappointed we may not get to see in couple weeks but oh well. Health is most important!’

‘Thank you for your support and patience at this time. Matthew Broderick tested positive before today’s performance of Plaza Suite, despite strict adherence to Covid safety protocols. A second test has confirmed the diagnosis.’
At the time, Sarah had tested negative and still performed as Matthew’s understudy Michael McGrath – a Tony Award winner – stepped in.
